The political gap between Kiambu Governor William Kabogo and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichun’gwa seems to widen as the latter finally responded to Kabogo’s controversial remarks.
It has been exactly five days since Kiambu County chief came under attack by majority of Jubilee and URP leaders after stating that Ruto was not guaranteed of Mt Kenya votes in 2022 general elections just by virtual of being a member of Jubilee Coalition.
Speaking on Monday during a press briefing in his office at Kikuyu, the lawmaker criticized the governor for his remarks which he termed as ‘old political ideas’.
“We all heard him all over the media but he is now saying that the media misquoted him. He is a governor representing nobody and his only one vote will not bar the people from voting for the Deputy President. The entire Mt Kenya region will vote for the only one man who is Ruto in 2022. If he does not want to vote for Ruto as the fifth president of this country, he can go hang himself with his only one vote,” he said.
According to the legislator, the remarks are putting Uhuru Kenyatta’s presidential bid in jeopardy as unity from the two regions is paramount in determining his re-election.
“His baseless remarks are however not going to change our minds. Those are his opinions and he is desperate for power because Kiambu people have lost trust in him,” he added.
Kabogo has however claimed that the media was used by some of his foes who want the governorship seat to tarnish his name.
“My statement was that come 2022 after our president has retired Kenyans will have to sit and decide who will be the next to take the seat. That doesn’t mean Ruto can’t be the one to,” Said Kabogo.
Ichung’wa went ahead to accuse the governor for failing to unite Kiambu people in support of Ruto’s presidency in 2022, saying Ruto will win in the next second general election arguing that together with Uhuru Kenyatta they have geared many developments in the country and have won many people’s hearts.
