President Uhuru Kenyatta has elbowed Deputy President Wiliam Ruto from crucial ministries amid claims of their fallout following the handshake.

The President is now the man running the show in the government after sacking embattled former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri and handing over the docket to Peter Munya with whom he shares strong ties.

 Munya was mentioned among the CSs who reportedly planned to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto. 

Uhuru retained Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development and Public works in the hands of his man James Macharia. The Interior docket was maintained by Fred Matiang’i while Uhuru confirmed his man Ukur Yatani as National Treasury CS after sacking Ruto’s man Henry Rotich from the docket. 

Other powerful dockets Uhuru has retained are George Magoha (Education), Mutahi Kagwe (Health) and Sicily Kariuki (Water and Irrigation. 

Rachel Omamo(Foreign Affairs), Monica Juma(Defence), Eugene Wamalwa (Devolution), led Margret Kobia (Public Service), Joe Mucheru(ICT), John Munyes(Petroleum and mining) and Keriako Tobiko (Environment).

 On the other hand, Ruto has been left with Farida Karoney (Lands), Simon Chelugui (Labor), Adan Mohamed(East African Community) and Betty Maina (Industrialisation), According to political analyst Felix Odhiambo, Uhuru wants to use the remaining period to deliver on his promises after taking control over the dockets.

“The President is formally taking control because the buck stops with him. He is looking at areas of weaknesses so that he can deliver on his promises,” he said. 

The relationship between Uhuru and Ruto has been a matter of concern since the head of state decided to work ODM leader Raila Odinga.
