Deputy President William Ruto has again been urged to exit power alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is expected to retire after handing over after 2022 polls.
The DP has been crisscrossing the nation lately, in the company of his allies, who have been drumming up support for his bid to succeed Uhuru in the much-awaited general elections.
But former Subukia lawmaker Koigi Wa Wamwere has called upon the DP to retire alongside Uhuru, saying that he has already served his 10 years in power.
Speaking on Saturday, the veteran politician said that Ruto will be unfair to Kenyans if he chooses to run, adding that Kenyans no longer want anything to do with people who served in Jubilee, which he said has failed, going forward.
"As Uhuru goes home, let Ruto go too, he should not think he will be there for ten years under Uhuru and then get ten more. When Kenyatta and Moi left, they left with all their people. (Uhuru akienda nyumbani Ruto nayeye aende, asidhani atakaa pale miaka kumi na Uhuru kisha naye aongezewe kumi. Tulipotoa Kenyatta na Moi nao pia waliondoka na watu wao wote)," he said.
The former Assistant Cabinet Minister made the remarks in an interview on Nakuru's Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Cheche show on Saturday evening.
He said that Ruto will not save the nation from the problems his boss couldn't, adding that the same goes to ODM leader Raila Odinga and all the current politicians and state officials.
According to him, not even the likes of Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi (Amani National Congress) or Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i will be of help.
"The solution to our problems is all these people going home, including the others we hear they want to include, the likes of Matiang'i. (Suluhu ya shida zetu ni hawa wote waende nyumbani pamoja na wale wengine tunasikia wanataka kuwekwa pale kama Matiang'i)," he added.
While some politicians have linked Raila and Uhuru to leadership post-2022, Uhuru has denied eyeing any post, while Raila remains silent on his plans.
On the other hand, Matiang'i is being associated with fighting for a seat in the Gusii region, which he has also remained mum on.
