ODM leader Raila Odinga has in the past few months insisted that the country will conduct a referendum going into the next election, with a view to amending some bits of the constitution.

However, while hitting back at Raila,  Duale who is also the National Assembly Majority leader, insisted that the change of constitution should only be through a referendum and not 'funeral politics'

“In 2010, they chose a presidential system. If they now want a parliamentary one, it must be through a referendum. People like Raila and Kalonzo who want a referendum should be reminded that funerals are not the place to achieve this,” said Duale

Deputy President William Ruto has on several occasion blasted the pro-referendum team, saying that any constitutional change should be people-centred and not to advance the interests of politicians who are advancing their selfish agenda.

Duale's sentiments come at a time when the political temperature in the country is steadily on the rise with 2022 politics on the card.
