Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua has proposed a change in the arrangement used in the allocation of resources.
This comes at a time when politicians from the Mt Kenya region have also been calling for the introduction of more constituencies, owing to the huge population in the region.
Speaking on Tuesday, the lawmaker proposed a system that will see densely populated regions allocated more funds, as opposed to now where the allocation is uniform.
Speaking on Citizen TV, he stressed on the need for monies to be given based on the population contained in a region.
"Let us be open to having more resources allocated to areas where the population is higher," he said.
Reacting to the census results which were released on Monday, the MP expressed his concerns about the numbers, claiming that the data is inaccurate.
"In my view, there is lack of accuracy in the census numbers," he added.
Similar concerns have been raised by politicians from Tharaka Nithi and Vihiga counties, who have also claimed that their numbers have been scaled-down.
In its findings, the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics said that the country's population currently stands at 47.6 million people.
