Members of Parliament (MPs) are driven by greed and not service delivery, former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has said.
Speaking during an interview on NTV's Am Live show on Tuesday morning, the former legislator said that MPs are now asking too much after it emerged that they are pushing for night allowances.
He said lawmakers have developed a habit of asking for allowances from time to time when their people are languishing in abject poverty.
Khalwale, opined that he will not be surprised if the MPs push for helicopter allowances in the near future.
“When they get a car grant of 5 million shillings they don’t want it they want a higher value car if we allow them that they will start asking for a helicopter grant,” he said.
According to him, the lawmakers have been asking for more allowances because they want to live like celebrities instead of their normal lives.
He claimed that the greed among Kenyan lawmakers is one of the reasons why the country continues to lag behind in terms of development.
MPs have a celebrity mentality, instead of socialising in their regular joints they start going to 5-star restaurants," he added.
