The national government has obtained funding from the African Development bank towards the cost of rehabilitation of the Isbania-Kisii-Ahero A1 road.
In a gazette notice,yesterday Kenya National Highways Authority (KNHA) indicated that the project will enable easy access to a large corridor that links Tanzania Kenya and South Sudan being a transit route running along the eastern shore of Lake Victoria via Isbania to Lokichogio and onwards to Juba.
The road traverses Kisumu,Kisii,Nyamira,Migori and Homa Bay counties approximated at 176 km with the Ahero-Kisii section covering 84km.
The project is intended to rehabilitate the current 6 meters wide road to a 7 meter wide carriage with 2 meter shoulders on each side to reduce traffic friction and accommodate service roads built-up locations.
The project is designed together with improvement of 78km feeder roads linking the main road with markets, social, administrative and educational centers such as the Oyugis-Kendu Bay road (26km), Oyugis -Rangwe-Rodi Kopany road (30km), Oyugis-Gamba road (7km),Misambi- Ekerenyo road (15 km) and the Sondu-Nyabondo Complex road.
The construction work is expected to kick off in November this year.
