Mobile health provider M-Tiba has announced that it has registered 45,000 individuals and signed over 60 healthcare service providers ten months after the mobile app was launched.
The national rollout of the M-Tiba is now underway with the very first outlets outside Nairobi being in Kisumu, Siaya and Mombasa counties.
The M-Tiba mobile health wallet which was developed by the CarePay, PharmAcces and Safaricom companies allows users to save, send and receive funds to gain access to healthcare services using their phones.
Safaricom boss Bob Collymore said the M-Tiba service has the potential of transforming essential health services to the millions of Kenyans in need of quality healthcare.
"For a good number of Kenyans, a trip to the clinics can create real financial challenge. And it can have many knock-on effects in people holding lowly paid jobs who may have to sell their property to pay for basic care," said Collymore.
To encourage Kenyans save on healthcare, the Pfizer Foundation is now funding the first ever M-TIBA bonus scheme that will see the first 100,000 users who register and then deposit Sh100 or more receive monthly bonuses amounting to Sh50 for up to 12 months.
