Former President Mwai Kibaki Kibaki’s advisor Marangu Marete has refuted claims by Royal Media Services owner S.K Macharia that CORD Leader Raila Odinga won the 2007 general elections.
In a statement on Tuesday shortly after Macharia's appearance before the Senate’s Legal Affairs committee, Marangu cautioned that Macharia's remarks could polarize the country just eight months into the next general elections.
“In his submission on manual backup to the Senate earlier (yesterday), SK Macharia made preposterous allegations to the effect that Raila Odinga won the 2007 duel. Macharia further claimed he has evidence which he, apparently in his wisdom or lack thereof, didn’t present before the Johann Kriegler Commission,” Marete said.
Macharia, while making his presentation on election law changes to the Senate’s Legal Affairs committee claimed that Kibaki rigged out Raila Odinga in the polls that plunged the country into violence, insisting that he was in possession of evidence to back up his allegations.
“The one who was declared the winner in 2007 was not the winner. We tracked all the results through satellite phones and as per my records, Raila won the elections,” the media mogul said.
