According to senior Assistant Inspector General of Police, Omar Abdi Shurie, the government has successfully combated the Al-Shabaab terror groups in the Volatile Garissa, Mandera and Wajir counties through a multi-agency approach noting that the strategy has largely suppressed the Somalia-based attackers from the staging frequent attacks as witnessed in the past.
"A multi-agency security approach, acting on crucial hints, organised cooperation between the police force and members of the general public as the only way to successfully secure North-Eastern Kenya,'' said a senior police officer.
Abdi Shurie further noted that the different departments of the National Police Service working as a dedicated team ensured the success of the peace keeping mission in the border counties.
He, however, said Al-Shabaab elements may not have moved out completely from the region but was quick to assure that security agents had intensified their alertness especially during this Ramadhan fast.
