Former prime minister and Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) party leader Raila Odinga says that he will not be silenced on construction of controversial Itare Dam water project.
Speaking at the burial of Mrs. Peris Kegoro, mother to human rights lawyer George Kegoro in Borabu, Nyamira County on Sunday, Raila said he will not relent on correcting the government matter that affect the lives of Kenyans.
“I know the Jubilee government would like me to keep quiet on issues like this Itare Dam project that has a major bearing on the lives of Kenyans. Let them know that nobody is going to stop me from speaking out whenever such matters arise,” he was quoted by The Nation.
Raila also insisted that many counties including Bomet, Nyamira, Migori and Homa Bay would be affected by the water project hence the project should be stopped immediately.
“When I raised the issue of the dam, a few people dismissed my fears as unfounded. A study of the project shows potential effects on the water supply in the five counties. This proves that my assertions are correct,” he said.
Also present in the funeral were MPs Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba, Ben Momanyi (Borabu), James Gesami (West Mugirango), Oburu Odinga (nominated) and Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama.
