Confirming the incident, Mlolongo town assistant chief David Kilonzo said that the man who was traced by some police officers was in a mission to rob M-pesa shop near the supermarket.

He said that the suspect had a pistol with him and did not have any document to identify himself.

"The suspect was traced by some police officers and was on a mission to rob M-pesa just few metres from Peter Mulei supermarket.

"He was therefore shot dead by one of the police officers," said Kilonzo.

Such incidents have become common in the town as it is barely two weeks after a gang of six men suspected to be thieves was shot dead.

Mr Kilonzo asked the county government of Machakos to provide more officers to be patrolling at both night and day times for the safety of residents especially business people.

He also urged residents to cooperate inorder to eliminate theft activities in the town and its outskirts.

The body of the deceased was taken to Machakos level five hospital mortuary.
