Uhuru at the same time invited President Trump to visit Kenya saying such a tour provides an opportunity to engage on issues of mutual interest and to further deepen Kenya-US relations both at bilateral and multilateral levels, for the benefit of citizens.

"Your Excellency, I take this opportunity on behalf of the Govt, People of Kenya & on my own behalf to convey my warm congratulations @POTUS. I take this opportunity to invite you to visit Kenya at your earliest convenience," wrote Uhuru on his Facebook account on Friday.

He said Kenya and the US have enjoyed warm and cordial bilateral and diplomatic relations for more than half a century.

"These relations are anchored on common democratic values and a number of framework agreements that we have concluded over time, which have in turn, facilitated closer cooperation in areas of mutual interest between our two countries."

On the regional front, Uhuru said Kenya and the US have cooperated in addressing security challenges including terrorism, violent extremism, piracy, civil wars and refugee problems in the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes regions.

"Further, our countries are working on existing and creating new trade and investment opportunities in the region through development infrastructure. In this regard, we look forward to the commencement of direct flights between Kenya and the United States of America."

At the same time, Uhuru congratulated former US president Barrack Obama for his successful completion of his two terms in office.

He noted that it was during Obama's tenure that relations between Africa and the US flourished even more.

"Your Excellency, your visit to Kenya in 2015 during the 6th Global Entrepreneurship Summit marked the highest point of the bilateral relations between our two countries," the Head of State noted.

He said Kenyans still cherish Obama's visit, being the first by a sitting US president and his assurance to work with the African continent after his presidency.

"This visit will accord us an opportunity to continue engaging on a wide range of issues at national, regional and international levels on the stability, development and prosperity of the East African Region and other regions of the world. While reiterating my congratulations, Mr. President, accept my best wishes for your good health and assurances of my best considerations," he told Obama
