Council of Governors chairman Wycliffe Oparanya has lamented that the war against graft is yet to bear fruits because some of the auditors have resolved to taking bribes from suspects in return for favours.

Speaking on Thursday during a consultative meeting between Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and COG, Oparanya said that it is saddening to notice that some of the auditors have failed to deliver their duties with diligence and transparently as expected of them because they want to enrich themselves.

He argued that the actions of some of these governors have made it difficult for the government to achieve its goals in the war against the vice.

He also said that the agencies tasked with dealing with graft have allowed themselves to be bend to the point that they are toothless dogs.

“We have witnessed cases where auditors demanded bribes in order to dish out favours. We are in possession of this evidence," he said, as quoted by Nation.

He also said that the bad relationship between the county and national government is partly to blame for the delayed war against graft at different levels of administration.

He said that it has come to his attention that some contractors and suppliers have mastered the art of bribing auditors to gain advantage over others in the different fields of performance.
