According to the Standard, the DP wants President Uhuru to explain to Jubilee members about his working relationship with Raila Odinga as signed in the Handshake.

The DP was not part of Handshake plans and the matter seems still to be bothering him. He has lately been going offensive against opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Dr Ruto is also quietly demanding to have Uhuru personally addressing disunity within Jubilee Party, which he says could disadvantage his 2022 succession plan.

Currently, the party is divided into two. One group identified as Kieleweke accuses Ruto of sabotage while another one called Tanga Tanga is pushing for his bid.

Further, the DP is keen to have President Uhuru Kenyatta address succession politics, with his MoU with Uhuru in the past being on the radar. The fight against corruption which he has often opposed is also in his agenda.

“We are a multiparty democracy. We must, therefore, organise ourselves around national political parties with issues, programmes and policies,” Ruto said on Sunday, hinting plans to have meeting.

Jubilee party Secretary General Raphael Tuju was also non-committal when asked if the party will yield to pressure and convene a meeting.

“If the DP has said that, I can’t contradict him because he is my boss,” Tuju said, while refusing to confirm about the meeting.

“Well the DP talked about it and I think he is the best person to confirm. I don’t want to speculate."

Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot voiced support for the meeting, saying that it was necessary so that the party can heal after constant wrangles.

“It’s our hope to meet and correct ourselves, where one section of the divide has wronged the other," said Mr Cheruiyot.
