Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has weighed in on the raising of the debt ceiling by the Senate.
Writing on Twitter on Wednesday, the Senate Majority Leader called for the debt to be restructured.
He also called for the country to do away with expensive commercial loans and go for cheaper concessional loans from international agencies.
"Today Senate voted to raise the national debt ceiling to Sh9 trillion. Now the National Treasury must work with speed to restructure our debt and retire the expensive commercial loans for cheaper concessional loans from multilateral agencies, " Murkomen's tweet read.
His intervention comes after devastating claims by Gatundu South Member of Parliament that the government, subject to parliamentary approval, went for expensive loans and avoided cheap loans.
The outspoken Gatundu South MP accepted responsibility for what he described as the complicity of the National Assembly in the campaign of lies by the central government on the economic situation in the country.
Scores of Kenyans have expressed concerns over the government's borrowing spree that has put Kenya in a precarious economic position.
President Uhuru's government has borrowed loans that he says are for development and not recurrent expenditure.
In an interview with members of the press in Mombasa recently, he defended his government's borrowing spree, saying he would continue borrowing for the sake of development.
