He never drinks. He rarely misses church. This is Simba Arati, the fiery Dagoretti North MP.
Today, he is one of the heavyweights in Nairobi's tough politics. But just how did this "boy" from Kisii conquer the city to become an emerging political star?
In 2008, he was nominated by the ODM party to the Nairobi City Council as a Councillor. That became his first break. He never squandered the opportunity, as he used it to build his political career.
However, before that, the former Kenya Polytechnic student leader had 'hustled' just like any other Kenyan youth from a humble background. For a living, it is said that he sold vegetables. Perhaps as he reflects in his past struggles with life, Arati counts himself lucky.
Having built his political networks as a Councillor at City Hall, Arati would later spread his political wings when he went for the Dagoretti North MP seat, winning it convincingly in his first attempt. From there, he has never looked back.
As a political heavyweight in his own rights, Arati is one of ODM leader Raila Odinga's "young turks" in Nairobi.
At just 38 years, Arati has achieved much in politics; five years as a Councillor and two terms in the National Assembly. Could he be having different political ambitions in future?
At one time, he frequented his home county of Kisii. To many, it was a political statement of some sorts. Is he planning to shift his political base to Kisii? Well, time will tell.
Amid the political troubles facing embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, with the possibility of the county chief not recovering politically, can Simba Arati stage a "coup" in the city and become the new political kingpin? Well, the next few weeks will tell.
But for the man who emerged from "nowhere" to become one of the main political voices in Nairobi, write off Simba Arati at your own risk. The lion can easily ambush you.
