Gatundu North sub county commissioner, Daniel Nyamiti has urged motorists in the area to be careful on the roads so as to avoid causing accidents.
Nyamiti addressed this issue in Kamwangi town after an accident claimed the life of a school child in Gathithi village, this week. The accident that involved a bodaboda operator and a nursery school pupil left the bodaboda rider injured and saw the student died while receiving treatment at the Igegania Level 4 hospital.
According to an eye witness, the motorbike belonging to a middle aged man identified as Mike was speeding when the operator lost control and to hit the child on the head.
Nyamiti said that the accidents were largely caused by failure of the operators to observe the Highway Code and warned the motorists against flouting traffic laws.
‘We lost a childs life in the incident that happened in Gathithi early this week as he was receiving treatment at Igegania level four hospital. This will not be condoned. Motorbike operators must follow traffic rules as guided by our constitution,’’ vowed Nyamiti.
He pointed out that he had already mobilised officers to enforce traffic rules stating that the war would only be won through a concerted effort among road users and members of the public in general.
