The legislator was arrested Tuesday morning by armed Flying Squad officers shortly after he gave a TV interview with NTV.

The MP was then taken to the CID headquarters in Kiambu in the company of his lawyer James Orengo.

Earlier, Junet had decried his impending arrest, questioning the legality of the whole exercise.

“Why do they want to arrest us when they have not even called us for grilling? This is impunity and police are being misused to harass us,” said Junet.

Efforts to get Junet behind bars began earlier when police went to his Kileleshwa residence at 5 AM but did not find him.

The Flying Squad officers then tracked him to the Nation Centre where he was giving a TV interview and waited outside before taking him.

In another incidence, Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama had been put under house arrest at his Gigiri home while Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire was picked and taken to the CID headquarters for interrogation.

Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinnet had earlier ordered their arrests over hate speech although police have not officially confirmed whether that is the reason the three find themselves behind bars.
