Kisii university students have been urged to use contraceptives wisely to benefit from it.
Speaking today in Kisii, Medical Practitioner Gilbert Mutiso said he has received concerns of some students who blindly misuse the contraceptive pills especially the e-pills.
He says instead of students going for protection or long-term use contraceptives they opt for e-pills which he says are supposed to be used only in an emergency occasion.
He warned that the e-pills should not be used more than 4 times in a year contrary to what the students are doing.
“Students are now misusing the contraceptives especially the e-pills which will later have adverse effects on their health including triggering of hormonal imbalances in the body which results to tender breasts and irregular monthly periods,” said Mutiso.
“Students who cannot opt for protection should consider going for a long term contraceptive such as the contraceptive injection, contraceptive patch precaution which is much safer compared to the e-pill where some have got a tendency of swallowing every time they have sex,” he said.
“Prolonged use of emergency pills will lead to failure of the same which means one can't get pregnant,” he said.
He also advocates for the use of protection like condoms saying it will protect them from STD’s, unlike the contraceptives which expose one to STD’s.
One of the students who opted for anonymity says she used the e-pills three times and the fourth attempt backfired.
