Deputy President William Ruto on Sunday congratulated Valary Jemeli Aiyabei after winning gold for Kenya in the 2019 edition of Frankfurt Marathon.
Valarie crossed the line ahead of two Ethiopians who came at second and third.
The deputy president in a tweet hailed Valarie over her determination and efforts in making sure she wins the race.
''Valarie Ayabei sweats it out against Ethiopians to win the 2019 women Frankfurt Marathon setting a new course record time of 2:19:09. Hongera!'' said DP Ruto.
She finished the race at 2:19:10, while other Kenyans in the race, Lonar Chemtai and Rotich Cheptanui finished fourth and fifth at 02:23:11 and 02:24:42 respectively.
Her win is attributed to a plan she set just from the beginning of the race.
Valarie took the lead from the beginning of the race. She maintained a steady pace in the whole race which kept other athletes sweating to match her speed and strength.
Her plan worked in her favour as she kept her close competitors, Ethiopian duo Alemu Kebede and Wondimagegn Assefa working hard to close the gap between her and them.
Valarie has set a new record for the marathon after her tremendous run.
She has joined the list of Kenyans who broke marathon records in less than a month.
