Former Gem Member of Parliament Jakoyo Midiwo shared his perspective Monday on President Uhuru's reported refusal to convene a Jubilee Party meeting amid growing rifts in the party.
He spoke on a panel interview on NTV.
According to Jakoyo's assessment, the President is adamant because he thinks that the governing Jubilee party is irreparably damaged and "dead."
"Uhuru has refused to accede to your demands for a party meeting because there is no party. Uhuru understands that the party is him and the handshake. He understands that. There is no more party, " Jakoyo Midiwo said.
Midiwo went on to claim that a section of Jubilee members was lashing out at Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga because it was afraid to confront President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Media reports indicate that Deputy President Dr William Ruto and his allies had asked the president to convene a party meeting but the president did not grant their request.
The governing party continues to be ravaged by growing factionalism that has seen two factions, Kieleweke and Tangatanga, trade harsh words publicly, fueling speculation that the party is on its death bed.
Cracks in Jubilee have raised questions on whether President Uhuru Kenyatta will follow through on his promise to endorse DP Ruto for the 2022 presidential election.
