The National government has assured farm owners at the Cheplaskei Maili Tisa Bypass that they will be compensated.
According to Rift Valley, Regional Commissioner George Natembeyathere was a delay in payment but the government is working round the clock to sort out the issue.
“We agree that there was a challenge in paying the landowners but the government will ensure that they are paid since the government cannot cone its citizens,” said Natembeya.
He reiterated that as the government they will ensure that the money comes in good time so that they can buy land elsewhere.
Natembeya spoke to the press at Kapseret in the outskirts of Eldoret town on Friday.
“I want to call on the residents to be patient as we sort out the matter sooner or later they will receive their payments since it’s guaranteed,” added the Rift Valley Regional Commissioner.
Natembeya called on the resident to allow contractors to continue with their job and should not stop it in the name that they are not paid.
President Uhuru Kenyatta commissioned the construction of Sh6 billion 32.9 kilometres to bypass in August 2017 and expected to end in 2021.
The project is funded by the African Development Bank and seeks to ease traffic congestion in the Uasin Gishu's capital Eldoret town.
