On August, 25, 2011, ODM leader Raila Amolo Odinga then Kenya’s Prime Minister appealed to the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi to formally surrender power after he was cornered by US soldiers in Tripoli.
In a statement released to media houses, Raila appealed to the Colonel, who had a dream of uniting the African continent into one country, to surrender for the sake of his people.
Raila, also African Union Special Envoy, reminded Gadhafi that the nation was at risk of collapse if he doesn’t surrender.
He urged him to listen to the plight of his people or else he was going to cause more harm than good.
“A good general should know when the game is up,” he said.
“The war is over and Mr Gaddafi’s side has lost. He should do the honourable thing now and let the people of Libya go.
"You can only govern people with their consent and Libyans have clearly shown that they want to move on from the Gaddafi era.”
Gadhafi had developed strong ties with different leaders from the African continent before he was brutally murdered.
The rebel forces cornered him until he went into hiding before he was founded and killed. There are conflicting accounts on why the Libyan ex President was murdered.
