Youth in Kiambu County have been urged to apply for the Sh300 million youth enterprise fund kitty to better their lives, a kitty that is basically for youth, women and people living with disability.
Speaking to this writer on Tuesday, Hospital ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Mwangi Wamwangi said that empowering youth through Sports and other activities has improved the youth mentality in various ways.
“Bringing the youth together gives them a chance to come up with ideas that will work in bringing income. That’s why we engage them into sporting activities among other programmes of benefit to them,” he said adding that he has been forming football tournaments from ward level to sub county to county level in partnership with the Youth and Sports department.
“We have also come up with tourism programmes where there is modeling competition dominated by the female gender,” Wamwangi added.
He revealed that he has been pushing for rehabilitation of Youth suffering from drug addiction in the ward and have been engaged through counseling programmes.
Wamwangi added that he has tried to form youth groups who will be empowered through the government programmes, and has helped reduce insecurity as the jobless youth are busy and earning.
