On Tuesday, woman hacked her husband and then strangled their two children before she took her own life.
A 32-year-old woman killed her 37-year-old husband and their two children before committing suicide at their home in Thome estate, Nairobi County.
It is alleged the woman used an axe to hack her husband while he was asleep. She then turned to their two children, a 14-year-old and 3-year-old, strangled them to death before taking her own life by hanging in their house using a rope.
Report by Citizen indicated the woman was running a small food outlet near a construction site in the area while the deceased husband was a casual labourer.
Confirming the killings, area Nyumba Kumi chairman Geoffrey Mugo said the family had been living in endless domestic disputes. It was the man who used to report the disputes to the Nyumba Kumi chairman.
A neighbour to the deceased family said the man could not report his house dispute to the police even when his wife could beat him up.
“A while back the man came to me and reported the wife had beaten him. But after speaking to him for a while, the man said he did not want to report the matter to the police or chief,” Mr Mwangi said as quoted by Citizen.
The woman's customers could not get her services at her food outlet which triggered them to alerted the Nyumba Kumi chairman, who then mobilized residents up to the deceased's house, only to find the whole family dead.
Police from Kasarani Police Station led by the Deputy OCPD and OCS Andrew Muchemi visited the crime scene before the bodies were moved to City Mortuary.
The investigation has been launched.
