A Nyeri court has sentenced a pregnant woman to 30 years in jail after she was convicted of manslaughter.
Nyeri High Court Judge Abigail Mshila slapped Emily Mukiri with the jail term after she pleaded guilty to killing her husband on the night of August 16 and 17, 2018.
The judge heard that the accused stabbed her husband Francis Mwiti Mukio after he appeared drunk at their home in Muthiga Shopping Center in Tetu, Nyeri county.
The judge, who granted Ms Mukiri's application to be charged with manslaughter instead of murder, heard that the deceased sparked an argument after returning home at 1 am.
The convict then picked a knife and stabbed him in the abdomen and left for the shopping centre, the deceased would later succumb at the Nyeri County Referral Hospital.
Before his death, Mukio had been called by a police officer from Muthiga Police Station that his wife had been arrested for disorderly conduct and he should go secure her release.
The court heard that he informed the officer that he had been assaulted by the same woman. In her ruling, the judge disregarded the convict's pleas for a leaner punishment on grounds that she is still young, at 28, and has two other children.
