On Wednesday, the former Gatanga MP hinted that Uhuru might bounce back as the Prime Minister after the lapse of his second and last presidential term in 2022.

The remarks have not been received well by Kandara MP Alice Wahome, an ally of Deputy President William Ruto, who on Thursday accused Uhuru of planning on clinging onto power.

Murathe has insisted that nothing stops Uhuru from ascending to the slot should there be constitutional amendments, as long as he remains the Jubilee Party boss.

He says that unless those opposed to the suggestion are able to fight him from the position, they should cease airing their opposition.

"Unless those making noise want to run for Jubilee Party leader and then be the leader of the party with the majority of MPs. Why can’t they come out and declare that they will challenge him for the position? Let them not just raise tantrums,” he said on Friday.

However, a section of politicians has warned Uhuru against any plot to remain in power, advising him to instead come out to confirm that what is being said is not the truth.

“It is quite alarming. Kenyans should be alarmed, it has happened in Rwanda, Uganda and the narrative on the BBI could be providing ground for what Uhuru advisers were alluding to,” said fellow Mandera Senator Billow Kerrow.

Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi said that it will be a disaster for Kenyans if Uhuru decides to succeed himself, suggesting that such would be rejected by the Kenyans.
