According to a statement from the Kikuyu community elders, Deputy President William Ruto is supposed to campaign separately and away from President Uhuru Kenyatta.

But the elders from the Rift Valley have said that there is a malicious motive behind the directive.

Kalenjin council of elders chairperson James Lukwo on Wednesday said that they did not understand the reason for their partners' remark.

"As a community, we feel there is a lot of hypocrisy in the statement. We ask leaders from Central to come out clearly on this matter," Lukwo said.

"We want to know if they have decided to dump us. They should declare their stand early. As elders, we don’t want a repeat of 2007/8 skirmishes," he added.

He expressed his uncertainty about Central Kenya's support for Ruto in the 2022 elections and asked if the community was only interested in winning the general election.

"They should be man enough and tell us if they will support our son in 2022," said Lukwo.
