West Mugirango MP James Gesami has been ordered to relocate his CDF offices from Nyamira County Assembly grounds after he allegedly defied orders from the County Assembly speaker not to host a rally that was addressed by Raila Odinga last week.
Mr Gesami hosted the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at the grounds despite warning from Speaker Joash Nyamoko.
On Monday, Nyamoko ordered the MP to relocate his offices for allegedly going against the statutory regulations safeguarding the independence of the assembly by hosting a public rally.
“As the Speaker, I had warned them against holding an illegal meeting at the assembly grounds. We have rules and regulations safeguarding the House. As the Speaker, I can never allow someone to defy orders from my office,” he added.
“I have issued a notice of eviction and hopefully he is going to comply with it and relocate his CDF offices to another place away from the assembly grounds,” added Mr Nyamoko.
But Gesami has since dismissed the orders as ‘petty’ and challenged the speaker to refrain from over stepping his powers and obligations.
“He doesn’t have powers at all to issue eviction notices. CDF offices belong to the public and so as the assembly. He is surpassing his powers and I won’t tolerate that. We held a public rally on a public ground and there no doubt about that,” he said.
