Ilchamus community has moved to the High Court in Nakuru to sue the Teachers Service Commission over unequal employment opportunities from members of their community.
From Baringo South County, the community claimed they have been marginalized and neglected by the TSC for years when it comes to employment opportunities despite having qualified people.
They claimed that there are teacher trainees among them who have gone through the necessary training and are qualified to be appointed as teachers but have been neglected because they come from marginalize community.
Over the past six years, Marigat sub-county have had a total of 93 slots and only 13 slots were awarded to Ilchamus community, culminating to only 18 percent.
In a recent recruitment by TSC, Baringo county have had 41 slots and 7 slots went Baringo South but Ilchamus have got none of their teachers selected.
Ilchamus community through lawyer Protas Saende moved to court through a certificate of urgency dated September 20 to sue the TSC.
They claimed actions of TSC are against the constitution and against the legitimate expectations of national values and principle of governance by state organs and public officials.
“The minority communities apart from demonstrating should be using the law to fight for their rights and petition cases in the court to sue and gain their rights to opportunities,” SAende said.
However, Justice Janet Mulwa considered the matter as of urgent but declined to suspend the recruitment by TSC in the area.
“I certify the matter urgent and the petition be served to the respondents, each party shall be afforded a hearing before the orders are granted,” ruled Mulwa.
The case will be heard on october 3.
