Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday killed two suspected criminals at Kiamaiko in Starehe estate of Nairobi.
In a tweet, the DCI noted that the undercover detectives were responding to a call from residents.
"TWO MEN were yesterday evening gunned down at Kiamaiko in #Starehe by Undercover Detectives who were responding to a distress call by Members of the Public in an Attempted Robbery. ONE Pistol & several Rounds of Ammunitions recovered. TWO other suspects escaped & being pursued," tweeted the DCI.
Two other suspects managed to escape after the detectives arrived at the scene of the incidence.
Police say when the suspects were ordered to surrender, they opened fire against them. This resulted to an exchange of live bullets in which the two were killed, while the other two managed to escape.
"The two fatalities resulted from an exchange of live fire after the gang defied a lawful order by the @DCI_Kenya Detectives to surrender, & firing at them. The Gang of Four was neutralised before their robbery mission at Kiamaiko-Soko ya Mbuzi Area matured," noted the DCI in another tweet.
