Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi on Saturday took a swipe at ODM counterpart Raila Odinga amid fallout speculations between the two.
Last week, Mudavadi accused President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga of allegedly embracing handshake because of being under pressure from Western nations.
Raila's team came out guns blazing, with Secretary General Edwin Sifuna accusing Mudavadi of being lackluster politicians waiting to take opportunities.
But on Saturday, Mudavadi warned Raila of possible loss at Kibra by-election, adding that the region is no longer his stronghold as he usually says.
In a statement seen to be targeting ODM, Mudavadi said the moment of awakening was in Kibra and warned those who consider the constituency their play field to prepare for defeat.
“Kibra cannot be anyone’s doormat as is being suggested. Nor is it anyone’s private property, their house or their bedroom,” charged Mudavadi when he addressed the media at Ole Sereni Hotel.
He said he had felt palpable panic among competitors and vowed to teach them a lesson by heeding the call by Kibra people asking for change that has been elusive for several years.
“Nothing demonstrates the craving for change in Kibra than the fact that its youth have often put their lives on the line for change that has never come. And just as often, many of those lives have been lost for nothing,” Mudavadi said.
Last week, Mr Odinga said the ODM party won't afford to lose the seat. He warned opponents that when he will blow the trumpet, Kibra people will do the right thing.
"We started here in Kibra and some of us are old now. But we have nurtured enough youths. I didn't want to come but I saw it important to join MPs in fulfilling this course," he said.
"When I will blow the trumpet, he will fall. For now let people eat their money. Let them dig the grave and we shall see who will fall inside," he added.
Mudavadi's ANC has fielded Raila's former aide Eliud Owalo while the ODM party is banking on late Ken Okoth's brother Imran Okoth in November by-election.
