Writing on Twitter after the ruling, the renowned lawyer said the IEBC verdict provided a basis for a clean-up of the electoral body.

"Listening to the pontifications and prevarications of the IEBC commissioners; it is clear to me, more than before, that we must sweep the commission clean at the top levels!" the Rarieda MP wrote.

Mariga's candidature had been hanging on a thin thread after Kibra constituency's Returning Officer Beatrice Muli disqualified him from the contest, after his name was not found in the voters' register.

His legal team appealed the decision at the IEBC disputes tribunal, arguing that Mariga was a registered voter as evidenced by an acknowledgement slip he had been issued with.

Following his clearance, Mariga will now face off with other candidates in the race that include; Imran Okoth of ODM, Eliud Owalo of ANC, among other candidates.
