President Uhuru Kenyatta has launched the listing of the Acorn bond at the London Stock Exchange.
The bond will help in the financing of students accommodation in Nairobi.
Former State House spokesman Manoah Esipisu, who is the current Kenyan ambassador to the United Kingdom, revealed the development in a tweet.
"In the capital of global capital, President Uhuru Kenyatta launches listing of Acorn bond at the London Stock Exchange to finance student accommodation in Nairobi, joins leaders at #InvestInAfrica #InvestInKenya summit," Manoah Esipisu tweeted on Monday.
The listing of the bond was also announced by State House on its Twitter handle, writing: "President Uhuru Kenyatta today rang the bell to kick off the trading of Kenya’s first green bond at the London Stock Exchange (LSE)."
In his speech, the Kenyan head of state made a pitch for Kenya as an ideal investment destination.
"Speaking during the launch of the green bond in London, President Uhuru urged UK investors to use Kenya as a gateway to investing into Africa and a bridge to the emerging market of more than 1.2bn people created by the African Continental Free Trade Area," State House noted.
Uhuru was joined by other leaders for the Invest in Africa Summit.
