Police officers in Nyamira County have arrested a 50-year-old man who allegedly defiled his daughter aged one year and 10 months.
The arrest of the suspect Bernard Omayo Kegwaro comes after Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba ordered the suspect be pursued by authorities.
He allegedly raped his daughter on Saturday at Nyamiacho village, Magere sub-location in Bomwagamo ward, Nyamira County after he was left to take care of the victim while his wife went to harvest coffee at their farm.
The suspect works at Shivling supermarket in Nyamira as a security guard.
Members of the public who spotted him sneaking into his house on Saturday night apprehended him and surrendered him to police officers.
Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba confirmed his arrest saying he will be arrained in court on Monday to be charged.
"The suspect is now in a lawful custody and will be taken to court to answer defilement charges.
"Men taking taking advantage of minors to engage in illict sex with them will not be spared by the law," Mariba notd.
The commissioner said the minor was treated at Ekerenyo Hospital where it was confirmed that she had been defiled.
