Residents of Chebungee village in Chepngaina, Bomet Central have been left in deep shock after the discovery of a body of an infant dumped at the banks of Nyangores River.
The area Assistant chief Richard Kirui has confirmed the incident, saying that police are already probing the matter to establish what transpired before the death.
Preliminary reports indicate that the baby is likely to have been murdered under unclear circumstances.
The child’s body had a rope tied around its neck. Kirui condemned the incident and asked residents to share any leads that could help police arrest the suspects.
He also said that the cases of teenage pregnancy have been rampant, adding that parents and other stakeholders must be vigilant on the same.
“This must be the act of a teenager trying to avoid the responsibility of motherhood after falling pregnant,” the assistant chief said.
On his part, Bomet Central sub-county Police Commander Musa Omari said that the deceased‘s body had been transferred to the Longisa morgue as a probe into the matter continues.
He also said that the government will remain vigilant on the cases of teenage pregnancies to reduce cases of school drop and increased crime in the area.
