Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga has paid tributes to nominated MCA Esther Dwallo who died on Wednesday evening at a Kisumu hospital.
Mrs Dwallo was serving as ODM nominated MCA upon her death. She featured predominantly during the ODM South Nyanza campaigns in 2017.
Wanga said the deceased legislator mentored her when she plunged into politics in 2012. Since then, she said, Dwallo has been her pillar in politics.
"Waking up to the sad news of the loss of my friend and mentor Hon Esther Rose Dwallo. Mama Esther (Nyamawego) has held my hand since I joined Homabay politics in 2012," she said.
"She has walked this journey with me, though the ups and downs. Her sense of humour was unmatched. What a loss to women's leadership! RIP Osiep Min Piny."
The Orange Democratic Movement party had earlier described Dwallo as an astute debater who ruled the assembly proceedings. She has been ill.
"We are saddened by the news of the passing on of Hon. Esther Dwallo, a member of the County Assembly of Homabay after a long illness bravely borne.
"She was a dedicated member of the party & an astute debater in the Assembly. We pray for her family during this moment of grief," the party said.
Kanyaluo ward MCA Jeff Ongoro also confirmed the news about the death of his colleague. Wanga is expected to run for Homa Bay gubernatorial seat in 2022.
