Several Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) officials both at the national and grassroots levels are expected to resign from their positions ahead of party primaries.
This will be in compliance with the party’s constitution that requires an official intending to venture in elective politics to resign prior to nominations.
On Tuesday, ODM Chief Executive officer Oduor Ongwen confirmed that a number of top officials have resigned, though silently.
“The party constitution is crystal clear and all officials are pretty aware of it. Before we conduct primaries, we expect all those intending to contest to resign and pave way for smooth nominations,” He said.
“Already a number of officials for instance in Siaya County have already complied with the law. We are expecting many of them to comply within this month,” he added.
The resignation paves way for credible primaries to avoid conflict of interests and the party will be run by the national secretariat till after general elections.
