The Cabinet sitting at State House Nairobi on Thursday has approved renaming Moi Day to Huduma Day, it has emerged.
Also, the Cabinet approved renaming of Boxing Day to Utamaduni Day, to celebrate the country's rich culture.
Moi Day celebrations which have been traditionally held on 10th October, were engineered by former President Daniel Moi to ostensibly celebrate the day he captured power.
However, when he handed over to President Mwai Kibaki in 2002, the celebrations were given a wide birth, with the new administration distancing itself from them.
When the new Constitution was promulgated in 2010, the country dumped the holiday, with Kenyatta Day also being renamed Mashujaa Day.
However, a Kenyan moved to court last year and managed to restore the Moi Day celebrations.
Although the state did not hold any function, workers were allowed out of their station.
The approval to rename it Huduma Day, means the state will fully sponsor activities during that day.
For Boxing Day, President Uhuru Kenyatta hinted during Jamhuri Day that it will be renamed Utamaduni Day.
Moi, 95, took over from Mzee Jomo Kenyatta in 1978, and went on to rule for 24 years.
