Business tycoon Jimi Wanjigi has spoken out after claims that he promised to award World Marathon Champion Eliud Kipchoge after he run a 42 kilometre Marathon in under 2 hours.
In an interview with Citizen Digital, the businessman hailed the marathon runner for making the nation proud but dismissed allegations that he had planned to gift the athlete after social media users attempted to mount pressure on him to fulfil his promise.
“It is a fake account, it has nothing to do with me but we are proud of Eliud Kipchoge for what he has done for the human race and for Kenya in particular,” he told Citizen Digital on Saturday.
Jimi’s lawyer Willis Otieno added that the businessman doesn’t own social media account.
Moments after Kipchoge completed the race under the record time, the fake users posted: “Congratulations!! You have done us proud #Eliud159. Plans are underway with @GulfstreamAero, the jet will be delivered to #eliudkipchoge before 29th November 2019.”
Kipchoge has continued to receive congratulations from different parts of the world. President Uhuru Kenyatta, his Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga are among those who have congratulated Kipchoge over the same.
Ruto traveled to Vienna, Australia to support Kipchoge for the race.
