One person has been reported dead while 13 others sustained injuries after a grisly accident along the Machakos-Kitui road on Thursday afternoon.
Confirming the incident, Machakos emergency services director David Mwongela said that the accident involving a 14-seater matatu occurred at Kaseve area.
Mwongela told journalists that the driver lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road and overturned several times after one the vehicle's tire burst.
"On reaching the corners at Kaseve, one tyre burst and the driver was unable to control the vehicle," said Mwongela.
He said that the driver of the vehicle which was heading to Machakos from Masii was speeding.
Mwongela said those injured were taken to the Machakos Level Five Hospital for treatment, adding that the body of the deceased was moved to the hospital mortuary.
He urged drivers to adhere to traffic rules in a bid to avoid accidents.
"Drivers should avoid flouting traffic rules to avert accidents, that's all," he said.
