Wildlife in Laikipia County is proving to be a menace and no longer a blessing as is thought by many.
Students of a primary school next to the ADC forest are witnesses of the cruelty imposed on them by the wild animals.
Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu has said that the government has issued Sh11 million which will be used in the construction of Mutara Primary School to a more secure location where elephants, buffaloes, and other wild animals do not disrupt the learning process.
The school has become hard to access by both students and their teachers as the animals are always attacking them. This results in psychological trauma on the students.
“Many pupils have encountered wild animals, among them elephants and buffaloes, and they are forced to walk over 15 kilometres to access the school which was built during the colonial times. This has forced us to persistently ask the government to relocate the school,” said one resident.
Irungu urged the students not to give up on their education because of the matter. Instead, he urged them to study even harder so that they can better the learning environment for the students who would come after them.
