Speaking on Sunday, Duale said he shares Odinga's vision to change Kenya's governance system.

Duale backed Odinga's parliamentary system proposal, arguing that the system will be the best alternative for heterogeneous composition of Kenyan communities.

“Raila Odinga and I have one thing in common; that the best way to end ethnic antagonism, divisive politics and elections is to have a parliamentary system that works for us.

“If Raila will not deliver on the parliamentary system, he shall have failed millions of Kenyans who believe a parliamentary system can end divisive politics, and that every community can have a chance to lead this country. And he shall be judged harshly," he said.

Some analysts have predicted that the Building Bridges Initiative team will recommend for a Parliamentary system, but the country will have to effect the changes through a plebiscite.

Odinga has in the past advocated for a parliamentary system, arguing that it will be effective for plural societies like those in Kenya.

“A parliamentary system is viewed as a better way to raise the majority threshold in a country where tribes view each other with suspicion in the race for power,” said Raila.

“Parliamentary system is generally suitable for plural societies; that is societies in which the political landscape is composed of diverse cultural, religious, ethnic, racial and regional interests, and that is what Kenya is,” he said.
