An exchange ensued between Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri and Woman Representative Wangui Ngirichi over the ongoing workers' strike at the Kerugoya County Referral Hospital which has paralysed services in the facility.

Trouble began when the deputy governor blamed the situation on area politicians, claiming that politicians opposed to governor Anne Waiguru are responsible for inciting the workers to down their tools.

This did not go down well with Ngirichi who stood up to fire back, noting that the situation has nothing to do with politicians but the county government's inability to clean the hospital up and provide the required equipment.

"The workers were unhappy because the government failed to clean the facilities and provide medical equipment. There is no politics as alleged by the Deputy Governor. Let the truth be told," she was quoted by the Nation.

She called upon the county leadership to stop chest thumping and engage the workers in talks, adding that service provision has completely halted in the hospital and others across the county, claims that were rubbished by Ndambiri.

"In Kerugoya and Kimbimbi hospitals, patients are being attended to. Ms Wangui should visit the facilities and see this for herself," he said.

This follows a Thursday court ruling by Labour Relations Court Judge Nzioki Wa Makau's ruling that the county provide the needed equipment.

He also allowed the governor to take necessary punitive measures against the striking workers.
