In an interview with The Standard on phone, his close friends Kikuyu musician Mike Rua recounted the last moments with the singer before he made the revelations.

Rua revealed that he had spent the entire Sunday with the deceased at a fundraiser in Gatanga organised in support of their colleague Peter Kigia  who has an ailing child before they went to have  some drinks on Thika Road.

Rua said that Mathew broke into tears when he reminded him of an incident which had occurred in the past.

He, however, refused to disclose what he had reminded the deceased about before the death. He also said that he could hardly remember many things because they were both drunk.

“I spent most of Sunday with him. Just before we parted ways he was crying when I brought something up which I cannot remember since we were partying,” said Rua, as quoted by Standard.

The death of the singer has been described as a huge blow to the nation.

Led by President Uhuru Kenyatta, leaders have said that the death is shocking and pledged to stand with the family of the deceased during this moment of trial.
