Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu's wife Susan Wangari has finally surrendered to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission. (EACC).

According to Citizen Digital, Wangari handed herslef to detectives on Sunday afternoon hours after her husband was arrested.

Waititu, his wife and five other suspects in the Sh588 Million graft allegations had gone into hiding after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji ordered for their arrest on Friday.

On Sunday , Waititu's  lawyer Oliver Kipchumba rubbished claims that his client had gone into hiding.

He said that the governor was outside Nairobi when the arrest orders were made.

Kiambu County Chief Officer for Roads Luka Mwangi Waihenya also presented himself before the EACC on Sunday.

Governor Waititu, his wife and  other suspects are accused of embezzling Sh588 million public funds through irregular procurement for upgrading several roads in Kiambu County.

On Friday, Haji ordered for Waititu's arrest and prosecution over Sh588 million graft allegations.

The DPP said that there is sufficient evidence to prosecute the governor alongside 12 other suspects.

Haji claimed that the governor and other suspects are being prosecuted over alleged irregular procurement for the upgrading of several roads in Kiambu County.

“I find that the award of the contract for Ksh.588, 198,328.20 in respect to tender No.CGK/RTPW&U/142/2017-2018- for the upgrading of various gravel roads to Bitumen surface in Thika, Limuru, Gatundu North, Juja and Ruiru sub-counties was skewed in favour of M/s Testimony Enterprises Ltd, and the county government officials were culpable," a statement by DPP read.

Haji in the statement added, “The directors of M/s Testimony Enterprises Ltd were close associates of Ferdinand Ndung’u Waititu Babayao, the Governor of Kiambu County. The total amount of Ksh.147,274,055.39 have so far been irregularly paid to Testimony Enterprises Ltd in relation to the subject tender.”

Waititu and other suspects are facing charges of abuse of office, wilful failure to comply with procurement laws and false acquisition of public property.

The Governor, his wife and other suspects will be arraigned in court tommorrow.
