Third Way Alliance Secretary General Frederick Okango has once again poked holes into the 2018 truce between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) boss Raila Odinga, terming it useless.

The two reconciled and pledged union on March 9 last year, after which they announced plans to work together in a bid to eradicate recurrent national problems, including post elections wrangles and electoral injustices.

But Okango now says that the handshake and its Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) aftermath have not had any positive impact on the lives of Kenyans, adding that it remains unconstitutional despite involving leading politicians.

Speaking on Wednesday night, Okango argued that Raila's involvement doesn't make the handshake relevant, considering that he remains a common Kenyan citizen who is not holding any constitutional office.

"Ile maridhiano ilikuwa kati ya watu wawili, mmoja wao alikuwa Rais na mwingine ni mkenya ambaye katiba haintambui (it was a truce between two people, one of them being a president and the other a Kenya citizen not recognized by the law)," he said.

He made the remarks in an interview on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi on Wednesday night, also attended by Lare MP Jonah Mburu and his nominated MP David Ole Sankok.

However, he noted that the truce has been beneficial to the president as far as political calm is involved, which has given him ample quiet to do his job.

"Uhuru alijua kama atafanya kazi miaka tano bila tialala na tibim lazima amlete ndugu yake wafanye kazi (Uhuru knew that to work for five years without the tialala and tibim he had to bring his brother on board)," he added.
