Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party leader Isaac Ruto has called for an end to tribalism in Kenya, especially regarding political tussles.
Speaking on Sunday, the former Bomet Governor called for calm among Kenyans, discouraging against tribalism-based political suspicions.
He said no Kenyan can claim to be in government, and there is therefore no need to envy others on grounds that they are enjoying more privileges for backing the government.
He cited Kiambu region which has produced two of the nation's President, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and Uhuru Kenyatta, stating that they too are suffering like every other Kenyans.
He said the region is also grappling with similar problem the others are dealing with, including jigger infestation, and should be spared the branding of being part of government
"You can't blame people living in Kiambu for staying so long in government. They are not in government, they don't have any representation in government. Let's forget this tribalism nonsense," he said on K24's Punchline, Sunday night.
About the proposed constitutional changes, he threw his weight behind the referendum push, saying the nation is ripe for changes.
"I think for constitutional changes the time is now. We must make these changes now," the former governor opined.
He, however, declared his opposition to the Punguza Mizigo constitutional amendment push, terming it disadvantageous to women, as it seeks to scrap off their seats.
