Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has put on notice private developers who have encroached public playgrounds in the county.
He said those who have encroached utility land should either return them willingly, or face the full force of the law.
“My administration has already set in motion plans to revert to the public all the playgrounds that are in the hands of land grabbers. This time around, it will not be business as usual. Anyone who has grabbed public land be warned, I am coming for your neck,” he said.
Mandago made the remarks at Eldoret Sports Club on Saturday during an event organised by Philips Africa in partnership with Kenya Red Cross Society to create awareness on heart-related ailments.
The governor said title deeds of all illegally acquired pieces of land will be revoked.
“It sad that those individuals who have acquired open playgrounds illegally have built lockup shops, houses and other facilities instead of them being used by locals for practice," Mandago said.
He said by the end of the year, all grabbed public playgrounds will have been repossessed so that youths can use the facilities for sports purposes.
